The Coalition About MCSAP

Our Mission: To improve the quality of lives in our community by preventing the harmful consequences of substance use and abuse among youth, families, and the larger community.

Kasaundra Brown, coalition member and Prevention Associate at the Community Advocates Public Policy Institute, explains MCSAP in this video.

Established in 2011, the Milwaukee County Substance Abuse Prevention (MCSAP) Coalition is a countywide initiative with a vision of bringing together resources, wisdom, talents and passion to create a happy and healthy community. MCSAP addresses policies, practices and programs in our two current priority areas: marijuana use among youth and fatal drug overdose, with a particular emphasis on prescription drugs.

In 2013, Community Advocates, Inc. was awarded the Milwaukee County contract to serve as fiscal agent for the continuing work of MCSAP and the prevention sub-granting process. Since then, technical assistance and staffing has intensified and the coalition has grown to include more than 50 members from a diverse cross-section of the Milwaukee County community (15 of the 50 are highly engaged “voting members” helping to lead the coalition).
